Portishead has major suburban energy for me. Portishead is very nice it is quiet but that's a reason to like it, it's a easy cruise into Bristol centre complete opposite to living in Bristol area. Beautiful place to live. The high street is diverse and not overly populated with charity shops like some. You have some nice walks along the coast path to Clevedon or around the nature reserve. Some of it is too densely populated for my liking, mostly around the marina and village quarter where all the new development is but that's personal taste.

Portishead is a nice place but I would check out the commute to Bristol. Traffic queuing up to J19 starts around 7ish and traffic leaving the motorway in the evening rush hour is also bad. This was the pre covid days though so it might have improved now that they have restructured J19 and widened the road into Portishead. Quote.
